Say, "SHALOM" to the 2019 Tzofim!

This week was a very exciting one! BZD hosted the 2019 Tzofim Northeast Friendship Caravan. Although the Tzofim were only here in Baltimore for just short of six days, we got to know this amazing group of talented teens quite well! Everyday, we watched as they connected Israel to Baltimore through dance and song numbers (that always brought us to our feet).

As we got to talk to each member of the caravan, we quickly learned that becoming a member in the Tzofim is not an easy process. These teens go through an entire audition process in Israel, and once accepted, they train for six months before catching their flight to the United States. The Tzofim are chosen based upon not just their talent in the performing arts, but their overall wonderful qualities that make them so special. As many as 300 applicants audition, and only 30 Israeli teens are accepted into various Tzofim Friendship Caravan's that travel across the United States!

While in Baltimore, the Northeast Tzofim reached their 60th show on the Gordon Stage at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts (Owings Mills, JCC). Still, the Tzofim must perform a total of 100 shows while in the U.S. We wish we could continue traveling with them, but as they say in show biz, "the show must go on!" So, the Tzofim are off to their next stop on their tour...Buffalo, New York! We wish them all the success in the world!

We want to give a very special thank you to all of the wonderful host families that opened up their homes, and made the Tzofim feel so welcome. These teens are away from their families for months on end, so having a family and home setting in each of the cities they visit, is a crucial component to their overall experience and wellbeing while in the States.

Check out the short video I made of the Tzofim's time here in Baltimore!

In addition, we would like to thank BT Camps, Camp Louise, J Camps, JCC Owings Mills and the Myerberg Senior Center for partnering with us and welcoming the Tzofim with open arms. Every organization brought a unique experience to each performance the Tzofim gave, and added to the Tzofim's fun and positive time spent here in Maryland.

Until then, I've added some of our favorite moments from this week below.
